The Panasqueira Gallery includes a number of specimens from the world-famous tungsten and tin specimen-producing mines of Panasqueira in central Portugal. There are three pages to browse with a variety of specimens such as apatite, siderite, arsenopyrite, quartz and others.

WPAN-SW/38 - Arsenopyrite, marcasite and pyrite

Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Floater cluster of dull silvery striated crystals of arsenopyrite to 2.5x3 cm. epitaxialy overgrown by brassy marcasite crystals. The marcasite itself is also epitaxialy coated by a layer of oriented cubic 1-mm. pyrite crystals. There are a few crystals of muscovite to 0.4 cm. and minute neddle crystals of tourmaline at bottom. Some small nicks here and there. Very interesting old specimen.

5.5x4.5x3.5 - 40 €

MS 12/11

WPAN-4 - Siderite and muscovite

Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Group of creamy siderite crystals to 4.5x2 cm. with silky luster, partly flattened by contact, on a bed of muscovite. At bottom the muscovite forms rosettes of hexagonal crystals to 0.8 cm. There are tiny globules of golden pyrite on the muscovite as well as a couple of small quartz crystals. Some bruising at the muscovite at bottom and a small cleaved area in the siderite.

6x5x2.2 - 15 €

WPAN-5 - Arsenopyrite, marcasite and calcite

Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

A base of arsenopyrite crystals overgrown by a 1-mm. thin layer of brassy marcasite. There are tiny marcasite crystals here and there. Crossing the specimen there is a string of opaque white saddle-shaped crystals of calcite to 1 cm. Some bruising in a couple of calcite crystals.

5x4.5x1.8 - 15 €

WPAN-7 - Arsenopyrite and muscovite

Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Floater cluster of dull silvery striated crystals of arsenopyrite to 3 cm. intermixed with rosettes of hexagonal crystals of muscovite to 0.6 cm. At bottom there are a few 2-mm. lustrous golden crystals of marcasite. Some oxide staining as can be seen in the pictures. Some small nicks here and there.

5.5x4x3 - 15 €

WPAN-23 - Quartz and pyrite

Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Floater cluster of terminated translucent white to transparent colorless quartz crystals with a coating of golden crystalline pyrite at back. One quartz crystal is lacking just behind the termination of the main crystal, otherwise undamaged. Nice and interesting.

10.6x9x3.5 - Sold

WPAN-24 - Quartz, muscovite and calcite

Level 3, Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Nice floater cluster of doubly terminated translucent white to colorless quartz crystals. At bottom there is an aggregate of hexagonal muscovite crystals to 1 cm. across. A few creamy prismatic hexagonal 1-cm. siderite crystals and some lustrous arsenopyrite crystals add to the whole. Back and bottom of the specimen are partly coated by a layer of 1-mm. white rhombs of calcite. Interestingly the termination of the main crystal has long gone and actually it is recrystallized. Some bruising at the muscovite crystals, otherwise undamaged.

10.6x6.5x5 - 65 €

WPAN-19 - Quartz and calcite

Level 3, Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Nice singly terminated transparent colorless crystal of quartz partly coated by 1-mm. translucent white rhombs of calcite. A tiny nick at the termination.

6.5x2.3x2 - 15 €

WPAN-20 - Quartz and calcite

Level 3, Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Cluster of two singly terminated transparent colorless quartz crystals. The largest presents some zoning as can be seen in the pictures. A little muscovite and 1-mm. white rhombs of calcite. The bottom termination has an incipient recrystallization (silky-lustered). A tiny nick at the termination of the largest crystal.

4.3x2.2x1.8 - 9 €

WPAN-21 - Quartz and calcite

Level 3, Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Nice singly terminated transparent colorless crystal of quartz partly coated by 1-mm. translucent white rhombs of calcite. Incipient recrystallization at bottom termination. Undamaged.

5.3x1.6x1.4 - 10 €

WPAN-22 - Quartz, siderite and apatite

Level 3, Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Group of singly terminated translucent quartz crystals partly coated by a layer of lenticular creamy siderite crystals to 3 mm. The siderite is also coated by sugary tiny white crystals of calcite. Below the siderite layer there are some partial crystals of lustrous green apatite. The apatite area presents some damage and is partly contacted.

6x6x4 - 18 €

WPAN-8 - Quartz and siderite

Level 3, Barroca Grande Mine, Panasqueira, near Silvares (Fundao, Portugal)

Floater cluster of transparent colorless quartz crystals almost completely coated by a layer of lenticular creamy siderite crystals to 3 mm. The siderite is also coated by sugary tiny white crystals of calcite. The quartz crystals are partly recrystallized as seen in the pictures but the specimen is undamaged.

6x3x2.2 - 18 €
